A Sand Ceremony or Blending of the Sand symbolizes two lives becoming one in a wedding ceremony. Each person has different colored sand and takes turns pouring it into one clear vase or vessel. This will form layered colorful sand. Depending upon the bride and groom's wishes, sometimes just the couple participates, and sometimes the couple's children and/or parents join in with their own colored sand, adding to the layers of colors, this is an expression of the harmony being created via the entire family.
